Dvorak's beloved final symphony "From the New World" features the spiritual "Goin' Home", a musical postcard inspired by his journey across America. Roanoke's own composer and mandolin virtuoso Jeff Midkiff features traditional mountain music and a new concerto for mandolin and orchestra. Our opening night celebrates great music for and from The Blue Ridge mountains!

Our special pre-Valentine's program puts the full Roanoke Symphony Orchestra on display. We will hear American master composer Howard Hanson's "Romantic" Symphony, Mahler's musical love letter to his beloved Alma, and Viennese classics. This rich program of romantic music showcases the RSO and the acoustics of Shaftman Performance Hall.

The Voices of America

Copland, Stanard, Bernstein
This program features over 200 musicians in the orchestra and choruses, as we celebrate our vital and living American history through beloved music. We will perform Bernstein's inspiring setting of psalms of peace, Copland's tribute to President Lincoln, and a wonderful new work by James Stanard that movingly commemorates the 150th anniversary of the civil war.
