I. ADVENTURES IN MUSIC CONCERTS

Symphonic Music from Around the World
Monday, November 12, 2007 | 10 a.m. & 11:30
Roanoke Performing Arts Theatre (Civic Center)
Fee: $4 per student

This program targets students in grades six through eight and provides an opportunity for these young adults to attend a live performances of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra under the direction of its Music Director David Wiley at the Roanoke Performing Arts Theatre (at Roanoke Civic Center). Each year, a new program is planned that provides a quality musical experience while simultaneously supporting material required in all subject areas as outlined by the Virginia Standards of Learning. A detailed Study Guide Book is provided to assist the teachers in their student preparation and follow-up. Teacher, administrator, parental and student feedback is sought to help us evaluate this program.

II. DISCOVERY CONCERTS

"Colorful Characters"
Monday, February 11, 2008 | 10 a.m. & 12-noon
Roanoke Performing Arts Theatre
Fee: $4 per student

Similar in nature to the Adventures in Music Program, these concerts feature more than 120 young musicians who comprise the Roanoke Youth Symphony and Junior Strings Orchestras. The purpose of the program is two-fold: first, to provide students in grades three through five the opportunity to hear a full orchestra perform live at the Roanoke Performing Arts Theatre (at Roanoke Civic Center); second, to provide valuable performance experience for the members of the two orchestras. Each year, a new program is planned that provides a quality musical experience while simultaneously supporting material required in all subject areas as outlined by the Virginia Standards of Learning. A detailed Study Guide Book is provided to assist the teachers in their student preparation and follow-up. You will be contacted with additional information, and a school registration form will be sent to you. We will take care of the concert hall seat assignments for your group, and we will provide specific instructions and logistics on when and where to arrive for the concert(s).
